Climate Change, Tourism Threaten Adirondack Lakes

Cornell University researchers report that New York’s Adirondack Mountains are facing challenges as summer tourism increases. Their study shows that climate warming and lake browning are making the lakes unsuitable for cold water fish species such as trout, salmon, and whitefish. Lake browning occurs when dissolved organic matter from forests turns the water tea-brown. The research highlights the impact of these environmental changes on the region’s aquatic life. Additional details about the study can be found at Cornell.edu/Research.
