Veterans Turn to Farming Through AgVets Program

Military service members in Northern New York now have an opportunity to transition to civilian life with the help of an agriculture program. The Northern New York Veterans in Agriculture program (AgVets), managed by Cornell Cooperative Extension Jefferson County, is offering active-duty and veteran service members guidance as they explore opportunities in New York agriculture.

Since 2020, the AgVets program has reached more than 2,200 service members. The program provides free farm tours, classes, workshops, and mentorships with local farmers. The initiative is helping veterans and those still in the military find new career paths and gain practical knowledge about farming.

For more information about the program and its work with veterans in Jefferson County, visit the Cornell University news release.
