CNN Ranks Appalachian Trail as Top Hiking Route

Cornell University in Ithaca reported that CNN recently ranked the Appalachian Trail as one of the world’s best hiking trails. Out of 23 featured routes, the trail was the only one in the United States besides another route. CNN highlighted a section of the trail that runs through Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park, describing it as "spectacular" and home to "some of the best scenery on the trail."

Dave Bowen, MBA ’77, serves as a district manager with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. In that role, he is one of several volunteers responsible for maintaining 46 miles of the Appalachian Trail in the southern part of Shenandoah National Park, as well as other nearby trails.

The Appalachian Trail stretches for 2,200 miles from Georgia’s Springer Mountain to Maine’s Mount Katahdin. CNN's recognition specifically mentioned the stretch through Shenandoah National Park.
