Kotlikoff Urges Respectful Discourse at Cornell Commencement

At Cornell University’s Schoellkopf Field on May 24, President Michael I. Kotlikoff addressed the 157th graduating class during commencement ceremonies held at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. He reminded graduates that democracies require open discussion and respectful disagreement. He emphasized that success depends on the ability to discuss differences honestly and in good faith, using knowledge, facts, and mutual respect. President Kotlikoff also highlighted Cornell’s effort to maintain community unity despite challenging circumstances. The graduation took place in damp, chilly weather, with graduates, family, and friends gathered under ponchos and umbrellas to witness the ceremony.
