Cornell Research Hunts Extraterrestrial Life Signatures
Cornell University in Ithaca has announced new research that may help identify life on other planets. The research team is developing a database of life signatures, which includes pigments that differ from those found on Earth. Their work suggests that planets orbiting stars other than the Sun could have distinct purple pigments that indicate the presence of life. Researchers at Cornell are gathering information on a variety of potential biosignatures, even those that might look different from familiar Earth-based life forms. This effort is part of a larger initiative to improve our understanding of life beyond our planet.
