Staff Report / Ithacalocal.org
The Asteri Ithaca project, a $100 million venture featuring a fully electric conference center and affordable housing, held its ribbon-cutting ceremony with a speech from Heather McDaniel, President of Ithaca Area Economic Development (IAED). During her speech, McDaniel stressed the importance of partnership and collaboration within the community, a principle she referred to as "PC". She asserted that collective efforts would help attract an estimated 63,000 visitors annually to the facility. The visitor influx is projected to have positive economic impacts on downtown retail, restaurants, and hotels.
Distinguished speakers who were also present at the ceremony, according to the IAED, included Robert Cantelmo from the City of Ithaca, Antonio Delgado - the Lieutenant Governor of the State of New York, RuthAnne Visnauskis from Homes and Community Renewal, Lea Webb from the New York State Senate, Anna Kelles from the New York State Assembly, Jennifer Tavares from the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, and Rick Manzardo from Vecino Group.
